5.0 out of 5 stars finally a room heater that does just that. no bonus noise, weight or danger, October 15, 2007

This product is very similar to the higher priced BH3900. The review below also applies to this.
---
My new home came with central heating. I loved the convenience, but wanted a heater for the bedroom so I didn't have to heat the entire home through the night, when it was only one room we needed heat in. There began my quest for a portable electric heater!

My first try was a Bionaire Digital Tower Ceramic Heater. It went right back to the store the moment I realized how powerful (read : noisy) the fan inside was. It did do a decent job warming up the room though.

I knew I'd like something quiet. Real quiet. My next try was an Oil Filled Radiator. It was much quieter - just low clicking sounds (probably from the metal or oil expanding?) - but failed to impress on heating. It took almost an hour to make a significant difference to a cold room (12x14) - and barely kept the temperature up through the night with the thermostat dialled up. When in use - the... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars good customer service, April 11, 2009

This review is from: Bionaire BH3950-U Silent Micathermic Console Heater (Kitchen)
We bought this model from Costco in October, 2006 and used it for about two years, with pretty much continual usage from October to May. It's quiet and puts out enough heat for a large room. It stopped working after two years. I noticed that it was still under warranty so I contacted (emailed) customer service at Bionaire. They were very cooperative and sent us a new unit at no charge.

I disassembled the older unit and it seemed well built. I found that the on off switch was broken. This is a "snap in" plastic switch and if you are careful you can pry it out of the faceplate with a small screwdriver or knife. For those of you who may have a similar problem the switch is a round, illuminated SPST rocker type and it's made by a factory in China under the brand name RLEIL model RL3-5. Either the switch broke and then fried or it overheated and some plastic melted internally. In any case the switch doesn't appear to be as heavy duty as it should be and I would recommend... 5.0 out of 5 stars Went from skeptic to believer!, November 14, 2009

One of the reasons I like shopping at Amazon is that you get to research the product you're interested in by getting some real feedback on the product from actual owners. I find that part extremely valuable. Anyway back to my thoughts on the Bionaire BH3950-U Silent Micathermic Heater with Adjustable Thermostat. Keep in mind I only had this heater for a few days. First thing is that shipping was incredibly fast. I selected Super Saver shipping which knocked out the shipping charge and I was expecting it to arrive a bit slower than regular shipping but to my surprise I received the heater in 2 days. I was not expecting that at all. There is a bit of assembly required with this heater but trust me, it is minimal. You'll just have to attach a set of wheels, a set of foot pegs and then the handle. All of it was done without tools. Yes that's right. Without tools. The screws that were supplied were the wing-nut or thumbscrew type so you honestly don't need a screwdriver and the assembly... 5.0 out of 5 stars My husband loves it, I think it's pretty nice too., October 9, 2008

It's lightweight and easily carried from one room to the next. It heats up a small room within a matter of minutes. It has a thermometer so it can shut off when it reaches a certain temperature and then kick back on when the temperature gets below the desired temp. (Or you can choose to set the timer and just have it run constantly for a certain time frame). It comes with a remote control. What more could you ask for in a portable heater? It's a great value. My husband is amazed at how quiet it is. I personally think it's a little noisey but I'm extra sensitive to that. It's nowhere near as noisey as a dishwashing machine or major appliance. My only complaint is that it wakes me every time it kicks on during the night. (I'm a REALLY light sleeper.) I love the warmth but I hate getting a terrible night sleep. It doesn't wake my husband and he raves about how 'quiet' it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars It gets me hot!, February 8, 2011
This review is from: Lasko 5395 30-Inch-Tall Digital Ceramic Pedestal Heater with Remote Control (Kitchen)
I initially bought this heater as a stop-gap when we were waiting (too damn long) for our landlord to repair our heater.
I placed it in our bedroom (with arched ceilings and a large master bath). It made the rooms nice and toasty within no time at all. I wouldn't say it was within minutes like other reviewers did, but I would say it made the room much more comfortable within an hour when the doors were shut. There was a lot of "CLOSE THAT DOOR!", but once it was warm there was more "uhhh, will you crack the door a little, honeybunch....sweetums?"

Since we moved out of that house-of-fail and into a loft with concrete floors and 18' ceilings, this thing has thus become a permanent fixture in the bathroom. It fits in a tiny corner with ease and heats the thing up fairly quickly. Husband likes to stand in front of it, naked. >_<
Disturbing, but I can see the allure of doing so in the winter.

Oh, I also used it to thaw out my toilet when it froze. Neat,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, August 6, 2008
This review is from: Lasko 5395 30-Inch-Tall Digital Ceramic Pedestal Heater with Remote Control (Kitchen)
Easy to put together. Tucks away into a corner nicely so it takes up very little room. Very easy to use and the remote is extremely handy. Relatively quiet (soft fan noise when on). Heats the room up fast and constantly monitors to maintain desired temperature. Highly recommended.

Vornado EH1-0034-06 AVH2 Full Room Heater

Product Description

A great money-saving alternative to heating the entire home, this portable electric heater delivers comfortable warmth wherever it's needed most. Designed for a large 16-by-16-foot room with an 8-foot ceiling, the unit's energy-efficient Vortex technology fully circulates warm air throughout the room in just minutes. Choose from two heat settings--low at 800 watts or high at 1500 watts. For added convenience, its automatic climate control adjusts the heat output and fan speed at all times to maintain the set temperature, which means the room doesn't need to cool down in order for the heater to turn back on. Great for at home or at the office, the unit offers simple top-mounted controls, whisper-quiet operation, and a variety of safety features including a cool-touch cabinet and grill, a non-glowing heating element, and automatic shut-off for peace of mind.

  • 5118 BTU/hr maximum output

4.0 out of 5 stars Best of the bunch for a safe, efficient, quiet space heater, December 28, 2007

This review is from: Vornado EH1-0034-06 AVH2 Full Room Heater (Kitchen)
I did a ton of research and bought a few heaters before this one but I'm most happy with the Vornado. The first two I bought were digital ceramic heaters. I have to recommend against getting a digital heater. Each time you turn it on, you have to push several controls to get back to where you like it, with this heater, you just turn it on. The only thing that kept me from buying it first was cost and the fact that it had no ceramic element which theoretically was a safer element than an electric coil. We use it in a few bedrooms that are not freezing cold but uncomfortably cold. The other great feature is it'll run on lower power and only use as much wattage as is needed to heat the room. My other heaters would run full blast till it hit the desired temperature, then turn off, repeat over and over. The trouble is, heaters will use about as much power as must rooms have available so if you have anything else plugged in, you'll throw the circuit breaker, which happened over and over... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with an external timer, February 21, 2009
By
Amos D. Meyers "Donovan" (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Vornado EH1-0034-06 AVH2 Full Room Heater (Kitchen)
This heater is exactly what I needed. I've had it for a few days now, and it works perfectly.

I primarily wanted a heater that would work with an external / plug-in / wall timer. You know, the thing with the dial. So many heaters have a "timer" which is actually just one-time automatic shut-off, so you still need to turn it on, and set the timer, each night. I wanted something that would turn on and off at specific times of day, and there aren't many if any.

This heater has three rocker switches for power, heat level, and fan speed; it has a dial for temperature. There are no toggles or digital settings or anything. That means you can cut power to it, then restore power, and it's right back to where you left it -- same temp setting, everything. I have it plugged into a heavy duty timer rated for 1875 watts.

Beyond meeting that specific requirement of mine, this is a great heater. It delivers on its promise of even heating. It circulates the air very... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Much Ado..., January 20, 2009

This review is from: Vornado EH1-0034-06 AVH2 Full Room Heater (Kitchen)
I can't believe all the bad reviews for Vornado heaters. My wife bought one almost 10 years ago at a garage sale and we've used it every night during the winters for years. I took it hunting and hooked it up in the back of a pickup truck in the winter at 10 degrees outside, we slept on top of the sleeping bags in our underwear. We bought the VH2 a few years back and use it during the winter in another room in the house. We keep the house at around 64 degrees at night and have one heater for the entire upstairs 4 bedrooms. It raises the temp a couple of degrees and you can tell the difference the moment you go downstairs. The other in our family room, over a crawl space, keeps the room very comfortable even on the coldest nights AND it's an open room about 14 feet wide and 35 feet long. Just angle it in the general direction and you'll feel the difference. THIS IS NOT A WHOLE HOUSE HEATER! It is a space heater which means heating a relatively small space. It cranks out hot air quickly... Read more
